The National show horse is the result of crosses between Arabs and American Saddlebreds, producing a handsome elegant horse.
The National horse Registry was formed in 1981 and today there are specific rules and qualities required for registration.

The breed combines the refinement of the Arabian with the animation of the Saddlebred.
Creating a horse that has the high-set, upright, long, swan-like neck of the Saddlebred.
The head should be relatively small and refined with a straight profile or slightly concave, Legs are correct with short cannon bones in front legs.
The neck should not have a pronounced crest.
The horses are close-coupled with a level topline and have a very deep, laid back shoulder, while the tail is carriage high.
This breed is also a gaited horse thanks to its American Saddle bred bloodlines.
It is shown in gaited classes,three- and five-gaited.It performs the stepping pace like the Saddlebred.
The National show horse can also perform the rack or "singlefoot".
This is when only one foot is on the ground at any one time and there is a moment of complete suspension when all four feet are off the ground.
The average height ranges from 15 – 17hh with popular coat in a variety of colours such as bay, chestnut, black, grey, pinto and palomino.
The breed is intelligent, spirited and easy to work with.
They have many uses and a versatile breed that compete in several classes such as driving and showing, hunter pleasure, English pleasure, Western pleasure and Equitation and general riding.
A versatile breed, they can also be used for show jumping, endurance, dressage, or western riding.
