Jump training for show jumping

Schooling a horse is important!
The show jumper needs to be well balanced, in order to engage the hocks.
Most problems stem from incorrect lack of schooling.
Flatwork and showjumping go hand in hand.
The flatwork should be correctly established, in order to make the horse supple, athletic, obedient, being able to adjust his balance and stride.

The more obedient a horse is the easier he will be to ride and teach to jump.
Schooling a horse is an ongoing process, and should be part of your weekly routine.
Work the horse on a circle. The horse should be able to canter several circles without problems occurring.
Changing to a stronger bit will not solve the problem.
There is no permanent short cut. You must go back to basics and continue training the horse to respond to your aids.
If you lack the knowledge to school your horse, then why not book a lesson with a trainer.
It can be useful to have an experienced person on the ground giving instructions.
Many novice riders make the mistake of trying to turn a horse only by using the inside rein; thus encouraging the outside shoulder to “ fall out “ making it difficult to turn.
The rider needs to turn the inside rein, squeeze the inside leg which should be by the girth, encouraging impulsion, keeping the horse going forward.
The out side rein controls the amount of bend in the neck and also the speed.
Your outside leg should be behind the girth, controlling the quarters and encouraging him to bend.
