My horse reared in hand !

Horse issue

My horse reared in hand!.

Rearing in hand is a very common horse issue in young colts and stallions.

It is a natural herd behaviour, whether in the wild or in a domestic setting and an important part of growing up.

When handling young horses from the ground it is quite common for them to go up.

A horse that does this should only be handled by an experienced horse handler who can command respect and obedience.

Chifney bit

This is an anti rear bit used on stallions and difficult horses to lead in hand.

If the horse misbehaves it puts pressure on the tongue with a harsh action.

Young immature horses may grow out of this dangerous behaviour, castration often calms them down.
