L
Leg up
A helper holds the rider’s left leg and helps him or her to spring up into the saddle.
Livery
Keeping a horse or pony on someone else’s premises, and paying them to look after it for you.
Loading
Putting a horse into a trailer or horsebox.
Long-reining
Driving a horse while on foot.
Loins
This is the area on either side of the back bone just behind the saddle.
Laminitis
This is painful inflamation of a horse's feet.An over weight pony is high risk for laminitis.
Lateral
A lateral pace is when both of the horse's legs on the same side move together.(At the side).
Liverpool bit
This is a horse bit.It is a driving bit which has three different rein possitions for greater control.
M
Ménage
An enclosed arena used for riding.
Mare
A female horse or pony from 4 years or more.
Mule
The offspring of a female horse or mare and a male donkey (Jack).
Muzzle
The area around the horse’s mouth.
Martingale
A piece of horse tack that is designed to prevent a horse from throwing its head up too high when riding.
Mitbah
This term is used to describe the angle at which the nack of an Arab horse enters the head.
