It is always useful to know how to carry out basic first aid routines to help you deal with any minor injuries or problems yourself
.
It is always a good idea to have a first aid kit at hand.
Keep the first aid kit in a dry area or place and always remember to check the contents from time to time so items can be replaced, or better still replace items as soon as they have been used up so when the next minor injury occurs you will have all the supplies at hand.
What do I need ?
Many minor injuries can be treated at home.
You need a variety of wound dressing pads and different sizes, including non-stick.
· Gamgee
· Cotton wool
· Surgical tape
· Equine bandage- several
· Zinc and caster oil
· Thermometer
· Epsom salts
· Glycerine
· Scissors
· Hand towel
· ‘Instant’ cold pack
· Zinc oxide tape
· Address book – vets number
· Table salt
· Large enamel bowl
· Antiseptic lotion
· Vasaline
· 2 buckets
Never let your supplies run dry!.
A regular health routine is important for the well being of your horse or pony.
This includes regular worming and also vaccinations which are essential to keep your animal in good health and condition.
You should be able to spot if anything is wrong with your pony and what is normal behaviour and what is not.
Trust your instincts and remember if the horse or pony is badly injured you may need to call a Vet.
